Welcome to WEEKEND ROUNDUP, formerly BOX OFFICE BREAKDOWN, where we discuss this weekends box office results. The TOP 3 films for the weekend of December 4-6 were The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Pt. 2, Krampus, and Creed.
WHAT STANDS OUT?
This week was a poor week at the box office, with no film bringing in over $20 million. It is nice to see the new Christmas horror/comedy Krampus make it into the Top 3. I am slightly surprised that Creed dropped out of the Top 3 already, seeing as it's been getting a lot of good word-of-mouth. This also marks the first week since it opened that The Martian wasn't in the Top 10.
THE TOP 3:
1. THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY PT. 2
The final installment of the über popular film series, The Hunger Games, took a big dip this weekend, dropping 63.7% to bring in $18.9 million. This brings Mockingjay Pt. 2 up to $227.4 million domestically and $524.2 million worldwide.
2. KRAMPUS
The new Christmas-time horror/comedy, Krampus, came out this week to a solid opening of $16.3 million. Combined with the foreign grosses, that puts its worldwide total at $19.7 million on only a $15 million production budget.
3. THE GOOD DINOSAUR
The newest Disney/Pixar film, The Good Dinosaur, also took a significant drop this week, bringing in only $15.3 million and dropping 60.9%. This puts its domestic total at $75.8 million and its worldwide total at $131.2 million.
