Box Office Breakdown: 11/27-11/29

Welcome to BOX OFFICE BREAKDOWN, where we discuss this weekends box office results.  The TOP 3 films for the weekend of November 27-29 were The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Pt. 2, The Good Dinosaur, and Creed.

Let's take a look at this week's box office results:

WHAT STANDS OUT?

This week's results were fairly predictable with Hunger Games staying in first, and the new Pixar film taking second.  I was happy to see Creed make the Top 3 in its opening.  A couple things that I did find interesting were that The Martian managed to stay in the Top 10 in its ninth week and that the new release, Victor Frankenstein, wasn't even on the list, coming in 12th with $3.57 million between Wednesday and Sunday.  However, it did manage to bring in an additional $10 million in foreign grosses.

THE TOP 3:

1. THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY PT. 2

The final installment of the ├╝ber popular film series, The Hunger Games, had a great second weekend, holding on to the top spot with $52 million.  This brings Mockingjay Pt. 2 up to $198.5 million domestically and $442.3 million worldwide.

2. THE GOOD DINOSAUR

Disney Pixar's newest film, The Good Dinosaur, opened up this week with a solid $39.2 million.  Combined with the totals from Wednesday and Thursday, The Good Dinosaur managed to bring in a domestic total of $55.5 million and a worldwide total of $84.2 million.

3. CREED

The newest installment/spinoff in the Rocky franchise, Creed, also hit theaters this weekend, bringing in $29.6 million, which happens to be the largest opening weekend for the franchise.  Adding in the Thanksgiving numbers, Creed managed to rake in $42.1 million domestically and $44.4 million worldwide.
